Center for Teaching and Learning - Clovis Community College: UDL Flex Series - Fall 2021

UDL Flex Overview

Universal design for learning is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people, based on scientific insights into how humans learn. Each session will provide a brief overview of UDL, and then strategies and discussion for that session’s specific guideline.

  1. Providing multiple means of engagement - a focus on sparking excitement and curiosity for learning, teaching students to tackle challenges with focus and determination, and teaching students to harness the power of emotions and motivation for learning.
  2. Providing multiple means of representation - strategies for creating flexible content (not overly focused on one sense), using a variety of symbols to help understanding, and helping students construct learning and generate new understandings.
  3. Providing multiple means of action and expression - strategies to increase accessibility and use of accessible materials in your course, including multiple modes of communication to and between your students, and how to help students focus their learning goals.
