Accessibility Training Courses

Self-enroll in the 10 Day Accessibility Challenge course using this link: CCC-10 Day Accessibility Challenge 

This course focuses on creating accessible content in Canvas, using Canvas tools. It is designed to go through it in 10 consecutive business days, though you can do it faster or slower as needed. Upon completion of the course, you are re-enrolled in a read only mode so you can keep access to the content.

This is a 4 week course that you have to complete within 60 days. It usually starts the first Monday of each month, though you can enroll late as long as you complete within the 60 day time limit. This course covers creating accessible external documents: Word, PPT, and PDF.

 D1: Headings

  • Heading styles are consistently used to aid navigation through the course when using assistive technology. 
  • Heading levels (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) are used in correct order.

  • Lists are created using the bullet or numbered list tool instead of being formatted manually so that lists are recognized when using a screen reader

  • Column and/or row header cells are designated so that screen readers can read table cells in the correct order.
  • A table caption is included.

D5/6: Color Contrast and Meaning

  • There is sufficient color contrast between the foreground text and background to avoid difficulties for students with low vision. 
  • Text and images of text have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
  • Color is not used as the only means of conveying information, adding emphasis, indicating action, or otherwise distinguishing a visual element.
