Career Research: Write a Cover Letter

"Anatomy of a Perfect Cover Letter" from Glassdoor

Components and structure of a "perfect cover letter," per Glassdoor's guide to "How to Write a Cover Letter."

Some employers may request, or require, that you include a cover letter with your application.

Whereas a resume presents your qualifications as a candidate (ie. work and volunteer experience and any special or in-demand skills you have), a cover letter provides context for all of that information and allows you to introduce yourself to the hiring committee in a memorable way.

Because a cover letter is usually your first chance to create a good impression with a potential employer, it is important to take some time and care writing it. You should also be sure to tailor your letter to each new job position for which you apply.

Below, you'll find a selection of print and online resources to assist you as you write.
