Career Research: Job Search

On this page, you'll find a collection of links to many online job banks or "job boards," where descriptions of open positions are listed and applicants can learn about the skills employers are looking for and about salaries for different jobs. Most job banks can be browsed in the same basic ways, but some job boards include jobs of all levels, occupations, and locations, and others specialize in certain kinds of jobs (ex. government jobs, non-profit jobs, jobs in education, etc.) or may have a more regional focus (ex. California, Central Valley).

For more about job banks, check out CareerOneStop's feature on the topic.

You may also have the opportunity to participate in job fairs, where you can meet employers and recruiters and possibly even have an on-the-spot interview. These major events are often advertised via local news broadcasts, online community events calendars, and social media. It is usually advisable to have a few printed copies of your resume with you, which you can hand to employers who may be interested in interviewing or hiring you for a position.
