Last name, First initial. Second initial. Date. Title. Publication type [Dissertation for Ph.D.] or [Thesis for M.S.], University, City, State, Country.

Example:

Nelson, W. A. 2004. Competition in structured zooplankton populations: coupling population genetics and dynamics using theoretical and                                           experimental approaches. Dissertation. University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

In-text citation: (Nelson 2004)

Example 2:

Wymore, A. 2009. Ecophysiology and metabolic shifts : the acute physiological effects of very low-carbohydrate
     high-protein diets. Thesis, California State University, Sacramento, California, USA.

In-text citation: (Wymore 2009)

Interviews, etc.

Ecology style does not have a specific format for citing videos, interviews, e-mail messages, conversations and other personal communications because these sources are generally cited in-text, not in the Literature Cited list.  If you must cite an interview in Literature Cited, follow this format:


Last Name, First Initial.  Month, day, year of interview. Type of interview.

Example 1:

Snow, R. August 10, 1999.  Personal interview.

Example 2:

Yang, J. April 4, 2016.  Telephone interview
